The Skyward Difference

A booking engine gives you one answer.
We test a dozen.

Rail pricing in America and Britain is genuinely complicated — buckets, splits, passes, multi-operator routings and connection minimums all interact. That complexity is exactly where the savings live, and exactly what a search box cannot handle.

Every routing tested, not just the obvious one

Two cities can be connected six different ways with wildly different prices. Our agents test the alternatives — parallel trains, split tickets, Thruway bus links — in the time it takes you to load a second tab.

Sleeper and accessible space you cannot see online

Roomettes, Bedrooms, Family Rooms and Accessible Bedrooms are capped at one or two per car. Public search frequently reports them sold out when inventory still exists. We work with live availability.

Discounts applied without you knowing they exist

65+, veteran, active duty, student, child, companion and Railcard rates all have separate eligibility rules. We apply everything you qualify for automatically — no research required.

A human when something goes wrong

Cancellations, missed connections, weather and equipment failures happen. Our desk rebooks you, pursues compensation and arranges accommodation where the carrier allows it.

Honest advice, including when to skip us

On a simple short hop, booking direct may cost the same. We will tell you. Trust is worth more to us than one transaction, and repeat callers are how this business works.

Two countries, one phone number

North American rail and British rail work on completely different logic. Our agents are trained on both, so a trip that combines Amtrak and LNER is a single conversation, not two.

Four Minutes, Start to Finish

How booking by phone actually works

No forms. No account. No 40-tab comparison spiral at midnight. Just a conversation with somebody who does this all day.

  • Nothing is charged until you say yes and hear the total, itemised.
  • Written confirmation lands in your inbox before the call ends.
  • Fare rules explained in plain English — refundable or not, and why.
  • Post-booking support is included, not an upsell.

Seven hours of scenery no highway reaches

Between San Clemente and Del Mar the Pacific Surfliner runs within feet of the surf. The California Zephyr spends six hours in a Colorado canyon accessible only by rail and raft. The Cardinal threads the New River Gorge.

These are not marketing lines. They are specific mileposts, and knowing which side of the train to sit on is the difference between a good trip and an unforgettable one. We note that request on every booking where it matters.

Phone-Only Fares

What we can do that a website cannot

These are not coupon codes. They are pricing techniques and inventory access that require a licensed agent and a live reservation system.

Up to 40%

Split-ticket pricing

Entirely legal in both the US and UK, routinely cheaper, and almost never surfaced by consumer search engines. Tested on every quote.

Traveler Reviews

4.9 out of 5, across 12,480 reviews

The pattern in almost every review is the same: the agent knew something the website did not.

Auto Train · Lorton → Sanford

“I have driven I-95 for eleven winters and I am done. The agent booked the Auto Train, explained priority offloading, and told me exactly when to arrive. My car was off the train and I was on A1A by ten in the morning. I will never drive it again.”

M
Marjorie H.Sarasota, FL
California Zephyr · Chicago → Emeryville

“I had been trying to book a roomette on the Zephyr for three weeks and the site kept showing sold out. One phone call, four minutes, done — and the agent got me on the westbound so I saw both the Rockies and the Sierras in daylight. That is not something a search box tells you.”

D
Derek W.Boulder, CO
Acela · New York → Washington DC

“I travel this corridor twice a month. Skyward gets me into First Class for close to what I was paying in Business, and when a train was cancelled in February they had me rebooked before the platform announcement finished.”

P
Priya N.Jersey City, NJ
Empire Builder · Seattle → Chicago

“We are both in our seventies and my wife uses a wheelchair. The accessible bedroom, the station assistance at both ends, the dining car seating — all of it was arranged in one conversation. Nobody rushed us. That mattered more than the price.”

R
Ray & Eleanor T.Spokane, WA
London → Edinburgh · LNER

“Booking UK rail from the States is genuinely confusing — split tickets, Railcards, three operators on one route. The agent found a split at York that saved me about ninety dollars and explained exactly how to use it. Worth the fee ten times over.”

C
Callum B.Austin, TX
City of New Orleans · Chicago → New Orleans

“Booked a family room for me and the grandkids for Mardi Gras. The agent talked me out of the date I wanted and onto one two days earlier that was three hundred dollars cheaper. That is not a sales pitch, that is advice.”

Common Questions

Before you call

How do I book a train ticket with Skyward Bookings?
Call our reservations desk. Tell the agent where you are going, roughly when, and how many people are travelling. The agent searches live availability across every operator that serves your route, explains the realistic options, and — if you are happy — confirms the reservation and emails your documents before you hang up. Most calls take under five minutes.
Is there a fee for calling?
The call itself is free from anywhere in the United States. Skyward Bookings charges a per-passenger service fee for booking, ticketing and post-booking support. The fee is quoted verbally before any payment is taken and appears itemised on your confirmation email. If you do not want to pay it, you are free to end the call at no cost.
Why book by phone instead of online?
Because rail pricing is genuinely complicated. Split ticketing, sleeper-car buckets, multi-operator routings, senior and military discounts, pass validity, connection minimums and Thruway bus links all interact. Search engines show you one answer. A trained agent tests a dozen and tells you which is actually cheaper — and which will actually work on the day.
Are your prices lower than booking direct?
Sometimes materially lower, sometimes the same. Our advantage is not a secret discount on every seat — it is knowing which fare construction is cheapest for your specific journey. On long-distance and multi-leg trips that difference is frequently worth hundreds of dollars. On a simple short hop it may be nothing, and we will tell you that honestly.
What payment methods do you accept?
All major credit and debit cards — Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. Payments are processed through a PCI-DSS compliant gateway. We never store your full card number, and our agents cannot see it after the transaction completes.
Can I change or cancel after booking?
That depends entirely on the fare rules of the ticket you purchased, which the agent explains before you pay. Flexible and refundable fares can generally be changed. Saver and Advance fares are usually non-refundable, though credit may be available. Our own service fee is separately governed by our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
Are you Amtrak?
No. Skyward Bookings is an independent travel agency operated by AGENCY 54, LLC. We are not Amtrak, VIA Rail, Eurostar, National Rail or any train operating company, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting as an agent of any government body. We book travel on your behalf with those carriers.
Is my personal information safe?
We collect only what is required to make and service your reservation, we do not sell personal information, and we handle data in line with our Privacy Policy and applicable US state privacy laws including the CCPA/CPRA. Full detail is on our Privacy Policy page.
